"Homage artists give their own vision of Delft"

It's Culture Year in Delft and that is Paula Kouwenhoven gewwten.
De director of World Art Delft was the theme for the annual summer symposium for foreign artists already established when Danielle Lokin of municipal museums Delft a better idea.
Instead of art and technology, participants are now wrestling with the theme of homage to Delft.

For the terrain at Rotterdamseweg Kouji Ohno, the Japanese on the go with a chainsaw and a block of wood that the shape of a ship being developed.

Kouwenhoven, the artists, about fifty in number, invited and provides shelter, food, lectures and material.
"An artist had aluminum cement needed. I had never heard of. Another wanted to work with blocks of ice. Since I went back, but that would amount to about 2000 euros for this one work. That's a bit above our budget."

Each participant gives his own interpretation of the homage. Some processed fragments of Delft blue tiles in a sculpture, the other is a fountain out of clay.
Greek Sarantis Gagas, for the fifth time in WAD sit down, write the story of the city of Delft in black and white, lay on lay still again.
Greek is ultimately not readable. "You do not have to read it is about the beauty of the letters.

Together the artists create a masterpiece of self-painted Delft blue plates. Kouwenhoven: "This is special for expositie4Delft.

4 Delft
Exhibition brings together all facets of city statues

Danielle Lokin, directors of local museums Delft, Delft selects the best tributes to foreign artists for the exhibition 4DELFT on September 5 opens.
As curator of this exhibition is Lokin searched for artworks that the city well into view. They are visible in the four art institutions in Delft: 38CC and World Art Museum Delft.
The latter shows the vision of foreign kunstenaara the city. They 4DELFT occasion of a joint work of Delft blue plates in their own style.

The shows Prinsenhof "The Skin of the City" show with works from the permanent collection of modern art.
DOK shows' the rhythm of the city "with an exhibition of Delft artists Schoonhoven and Wisse, comprising the collection of the art library. When the visitor gets 38CC 'the character of the city' to see what Delft means to them. The exhibition runs until October 10.

Het is Cultuurjaar in Delft en dat heeft Paula Kouwenhoven gewwten.
De directeur van World Art Delft had het thema voor het jaarlijkse zomersymposium voor buitenlandse kunstenaars al vastgesteld, toen Danielle Lokin van gemeentemusea Delft een beter idee kreeg.
In plaats van kunst en techniek stoeien de deelnemers nu met het thema 'hommage aan Delft'.

Voor op het terrain aan de Rotterdamseweg is de Japanese Kouji Ohno in de weer met een kettingzaag en een blok hout dat de vorm van een schip begint te krijgen.
HIj wist in zijn woonplaats Yokohama al welke invulling hij aan het thema wilde geven.
Het onderwerp, koopman Jan Joosten van Lodensteyn (1556-1623), vond hij nota bene in zijn eigen land.
"In Tokio is een wijk naar Joosten vernoemd. Dat is eigenlijk al een mooie hommage aan Delft."

De koopman voer in 1598 vanuit Delfshaven op het schip De Liefde uit voor een reis om de wereld.
Hij kwam terecht in Japan waar hij nooit meer wegging.
Het schip dathem naar het oosten bracht, probeert Ohno nu na te maken uit een gevelde, Delftse boomstam. "Het hout is erg hard om mee te werken".

Kouwenhoven heeft de kunstenaars, zo'n vijftig in getal, uitgenodigd en zorgt voor onderdak, voedsel, lezingen en material.
"Een kunstenares had aluminiumcement nodig. Daar had ik nog nooit van gehoord. Een ander wilde met blokken ijs werken. Daar ben ik achteraan gegaan, maar dat zou neerkomen op zo'n 2000 euro voor dit ene kunstwerk. Dat is een beetje boven ons budget."

Elke deelnemer geeft zijn eigen invulling aan de hommage.
De een verwerkt scherven van Delftsblauwe tegeltjes in een sculptuur, de ander maakt een fontein uit klei.
De Griekse Sarantis Gagas, die voor de vijfde keer bij WAD aanschuift, schrijft het verhaal van de stad Delft in zwart en wit, lag op lag, steeds weer.
Het Grieks is uiteindelijk niet meer leesbaar. "Je hoeft het niet te kunnen lezen; het gaat om de schoonheid van de letters."

Gezamenlijk maken de kunstenaars nog een kunstwerk van zelfbeschilderde Delftsblauwe borden.
Kouwenhoven:"Dat is special voor de expositie4Delft. Het wordt een stellage aan de wand waarop iedereen zijn eigen invulling aan het bordje geeft. De Porceleyne Fles werkt hier ook aan mee; daar gaan de borden nog de oven in en worden ze geglazuurd."
De kunstenaars moeten doorwerken, want zondag loopt de 'werkweek' ten einde. Dan kunnen alle resultaten bij WAD worden bewonderd.
"Ik denk niet dat ik eeder dan zondag klaar den," lacht Ohno die door Kouwenhoven wordt gekarakteriseerd als een 'hardwerkende, geweldige kunstenaar'.
Te midden van het zich ophopende zaagsel laat hij snel de kettingzaag weer ronken.


4 Delft
Expositie brengt alle facetten van stad in beeid

Danielle Lokin, directeur van Gemeentemusea Delft, selecteert de beste hommages aan Delft van de buitenlandse kunstenaars voor de tentoonstelling 4DELFT die op 5 september wordt geopend.
Als curator is Lokin voor deze expositie op zoek gegaan naar kunstwerken die de stad goed in beeld brengen. Die zijn te zien bij de vier kunstinstellingen in Delft: museum 38CC en World Art Delft.
Die laatste toont de visie van buitenlandse kunstenaara op de stad. Zij maken ter gelegenheid van 4DELFT ook een gezamenlijk kunstwerk van Delftsblauwe borden in hun eigen stijl.

Het Prinsenhof laat 'de huid van de stad' zien met werken uit de vaste collectie moderne kunst.
DOK toont 'het ritme van de stad' met een tentoonstelling van Delftse kunstenaars als Schoonhoven en Wisse, samengesteld uit de collectie van de kunstuitleen.
Bij 38CC krijgt de bezoeker 'het karakter van de stad' te zien wat Delft voor hen betekent. De expositie loopt tot en met 10 oktober.
